Juarez Mexico Heart for the World ministries
Our Vision
This past February my heart was turned towards our border in a deep and personal way. My heart broke when I received the news from my friends and ministry partners Jose and Sandra that their son had been murdered in a random act of violence as a result of the drug-cartel wars in Juarez, Mexico.
Jose and Sandra are Pastors of Templo Batabara, a wonderful church in Anapra, Mexico, located on the outskirts of Juarez. For the last five years, we have been working together, helping to provide a Hope Center feeding program that ministers to 60-80 children in the area who live in extreme poverty. A team from our church serves there every Saturday.
Afterward, during a time of prayer, I felt the Lord speaking, saying to my heart, “Lazarus is suffering at the gate, you cannot ignore him.” This of course referred to the story Jesus told of Lazarus and the rich man. As Lazarus languished in hunger and disease, the rich man ignored him. I faced my own tendency to not want to face the suffering beyond the gate (our border). I felt the Lord compelling me to stand in solidarity with the pastors serving across the border, who carry the burden of ministering to the victims of this violence. These brave men and women are putting their own lives at risk as they care for the injured, the orphans, the widows, and widowers.
Since that time we have had gatherings at the river where intercessors and pastors from both sides of the border joined to pray. The pastors from Juarez have said that the comfort and encouragement they received from knowing that they were not forgotten meant the world to them. We have organized healing services in Juarez to minister in a personal way to families who have lost loved ones and to people injured and suffering from gunshot wounds.
We have organized food and medical packing events to provide pastors in Juarez with emergency supplies for people who have been economically devastated. We have also gathered blankets, clothes, shoes, and school supplies to be delivered to people in need.
Beginning this summer we will also be sending teams of intercessors and ministers to pray in every major city on the U.S./Mexico border, from Tijuana to Matamoros. We believe we are seeing the signs of revival breaking out. Recently I was at a church in Juarez where around 1,000 people were gathered on a Tuesday night to pray for revival. God moved powerfully that night and many healings were reported. We believe that through both prayer and this border campaign, doors will open for us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in words, deeds, and wonders with thousands of people in Mexico. We are asking God to give us 10,000 souls.
My hope is that God will draw hundreds of intercessors to work together with us in this moment of Mexico’s greatest need. I believe the church, united in prayer, can see God turn away the angel of death, and will see those dwelling in the shadow of darkness discover God’s light and glory breaking through. I believe that in particular the Holy Spirit may be saying to many of us who live near the border, “For such a time as this I have called you” (Esther 4:14).
